Port Canaveral Cruise Port Guide

Port Canaveral is one of the world's busiest cruise ports, sitting on Florida's Space Coast about 45 minutes east of Orlando. Carnival, Celebrity, Disney, MSC, Norwegian, Princess, and Royal Caribbean all sail from its seven cruise terminals. Its mix of drive-up convenience for Florida residents and three nearby airports for fly-in cruisers makes parking and lodging the first planning decision most travelers face.

Port Canaveral is a drive-to port at heart. Most travelers arrive by car and park for the length of the sailing, while fly-in cruisers land at Orlando and transfer east by road. Getting those two decisions right — where to leave the car, or how to get from the airport — removes most of the stress from embarkation morning.

This hub is a practical starting point, not a booking engine. Use it to size up the choices in a few minutes, then follow the deeper guides for parking and hotels. Everything here is written to help you decide; we call out where details change often and should be confirmed directly with the provider before you book.

How to think about it

  • Driving in? Parking is your main decision — compare the port's own lots against cheaper off-site lots and hotel park-and-cruise packages.
  • Flying in? Orlando International (MCO) is the usual arrival airport, about an hour away. Give yourself buffer on embarkation morning and don't book a same-day flight.
  • Arriving the night before? A pre-cruise hotel near the port makes the morning calmer, and some hotels bundle parking.

Nearby airports

Airports near Port Canaveral
AirportDistance to portNotes
Orlando International Airport (MCO)~45 miAbout 45 minutes west via SR 528 East (a toll road), direct to the port. The most flight options and airline choices of the three airports.
Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB)~25 miThe closest airport by distance — about 25 miles (40 minutes) south of the port. Far fewer daily flights and airlines than MCO, so check routing before booking on distance alone.
Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB)~60 miAbout an hour northwest via SR 417 (toll road) then SR 528 East. The farthest of the three airports; often paired with low-cost or charter carriers.

Common timing mistakes

  • Bringing cash for parking — Port Canaveral's own lots are cashless; bring a credit or debit card.
  • Assuming any nearby hotel is close to your terminal — the port splits into an 'A' group (Terminals 5, 6, 8, 10) and a 'B' group (Terminals 1, 2, 3) on opposite sides of the port, so being close to Port Canaveral doesn't always mean close to your specific ship.
  • Booking the cheapest Melbourne (MLB) flight without checking routing — MLB is closer to the port than Orlando (MCO) but has far fewer daily flights and airlines, which can mean pricier or connecting itineraries.
  • Expecting to reserve Port Canaveral's own parking in advance — it's pay-on-entry only with no advance reservations, so budget extra time during peak embarkation windows.
  • Waiting too long to book a park-and-cruise hotel package — these can sell out during holidays and spring break, sometimes weeks ahead.
